Milkweed Fellowship

The Milkweed Fellowship is a paid, one- to two-year, learning-oriented position that seeks to provide entry to those historically underrepresented among workers in book publishing—indigenous, people of color, LGBTQIA+, and those with disabilities—so they may advance, discover, and champion transformative literature for years to come. Milkweed Editions, an independent publisher of award-winning and best-selling nonfiction, fiction, and poetry is seeking a detailed, motivated, and goal-oriented Marketing and Publicity Coordinator.

Responsibilities for the position include:

· Assist with all aspects of publicity campaigns

· Manage publicity outreach for trade paperback reprints

· Assist with coordination and logistics of author events and tours

· Research and seek out new media outlets for promotion of our titles

· Assist with the planning and implementation of frontlist and backlist marketing campaigns 

· Assist with creating highly effective promotional materials and assets

· Oversee digital distribution of metadata, titles, and digital assets 

· Manage content on company website, retail, and consumer-facing sales platforms 

· Create and manage e-book promotions on BookBub, Goodreads, and NetGalley

· Assist in promotions, advertising, and content with online retailers

· Coordinate logistics related to sales conferences, festivals, and trade shows

· Manage retail email newsletters and promotional e-blasts

· Manage and maintain marketing and sales databases and contact lists

· Provide comprehensive general administrative support for department

Qualifications:

· Minimum 2 years prior related experience in publishing, with experience working on creative and strategic marketing and publicity campaigns

·  Exceptional writing, communication, and organizational skills

· Ability to prioritize and juggle tasks from multiple points of contact

· Skilled knowledge of Google Workspace / G Suite, e-newsletter platforms, and database management

· Enthusiasm for participating in a small, creative, and supportive office environment

· Demonstrated ability to work well with others on a team, while also being self-directed and quick to take initiative

· Commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the multifaceted work of book marketing through an equity lens

This is a Minneapolis-based, in-person, full-time, exempt position with benefits. Compensation will be determined based on experience, within a range of $47,000–$50,000 per year.

Milkweed Editions, an award-winning independent publisher of transformative literature, seeks an Editor. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to engaging, managing, and communicating with freelance editors about specific projects; reviewing and discerning editorial marks; collaborating with authors to address questions and suggested changes; and ensuring mistakes are not introduced in the revision process. The Editor will also write and revise descriptive copy, read and report on submissions, and work closely with the Managing Editor, who oversees the production of all titles.

The ideal candidate will be extremely detail-oriented, supremely well-organized, and animated by an ethos of service to outstanding authors. Exceptional writing and communication skills are essential to success in the role. Candidates should be self-directed, demonstrate consistent initiative, and have a high aptitude for multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines. Milkweed Editions offers a collaborative, creative, and supportive office environment, and the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about engagement and collaboration with the team as a whole.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in editorial production and/or project management
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism or English preferred 
  • A strong command of the English language, exceptional editing prowess, and a thorough understanding of The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ample experience with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat 

This is a Minneapolis-based, in-person, full-time, exempt position with benefits. Compensation will be determined based on experience, within a range of $50,000–$60,000 per year.
